Upgrading for Quebec Mortgage Brokers
The Ethics and Professional Practices (E116) training is mandatory for a Quebec representative wishing to reinstate their certificate, and advisors from other provinces should also complete this training.

To become a mortgage broker in Quebec, you must complete the two mandatory training courses of the Mortgage Brokerage Qualification Program (MBQP), and passing the exams at the College des professions financières is a prerequisite for being admitted to the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) exams.
Description
This program, offered 100% online, fully in English, certifies that the individual has successfully completed the Mortgage Brokerage Qualification Program (MBQP) training. It is a short-duration program (120 hours) enabling learners to acquire the skills regulated by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) in order to obtain the professional practice license as a mortgage broker.
The profession
The mortgage broker acts as an intermediary between a client wishing to acquire a property and mortgage lenders (financial institutions). The mortgage broker analyzes the client’s financial situation and needs in order to help them find the mortgage loan best suited to their expectations.

Upon completion of the training, the participant will have developed two sets of essential skills for the mortgage brokerage profession, namely :
- Establish an ethical professional practice in compliance with the rules governing mortgage brokerage;
- Execute a mortgage brokerage transaction tailored to the client’s situation and needs.

Program pathway
To successfully complete the program, you must complete two mandatory training courses as well as pass each of the Collège des professions financières exams.
Once the training is successfully completed, you will need to register for the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) qualification exams, which are based on the same training manuals. Passing these exams is essential to obtain your mortgage broker license.
After completing these steps, you will be able to begin a twelve-week probationary period, supervised by a supervisor within a mortgage brokerage firm. Following this internship, you will be able to apply for your mortgage broker certificate from the AMF to officially practice the profession.
Course descriptions
Course : Ethics and professional practice (E-116)
This component focuses exclusively on the legislative framework (notably the Civil Code) and the regulations applicable to mortgage brokerage, including ethical rules. It allows you to integrate legal concepts and the AMF’s regulatory framework into your professional practice.
Course : Mortgage brokerage (E-611)
This component addresses mortgage credit, types of mortgages, financial ratios defining clients’ borrowing capacity, as well as the methods for assessing their needs in your role as an advisor.
Admission requirements
Be 18 years of age or older at the time of registration;
Hold Canadian citizenship or possess a work permit.
Completion requirements
To complete the program, you must:
- Have studied all the training manuals;
- Have completed all formative exercises;
- Have passed both supervised exams;
- Have obtained a passing grade above 60% on each of the College exams.
