Mortgage Brokerage Qualification Program (MBQP)

To become a Mortgage Broker in Quebec, you must complete the two courses of the Mortgage Brokerage Qualification Program (PQCH), for which passing the exams at the College of Financial Professions is a condition for being admitted to the exams of the Autorité des marchés financiers.

More than 82% of students at the College of Financial Professions pass the AMF exams on the first attempt.

Self-training

The fees are $1,399.00, including manuals in PDF format, self-study modules, more than 750 quiz and exam registration.
The Mortgage Brokerage Qualification Program (MBQP) includes two training courses, namely:

  • Ethics and professional practice
  • Mortgage brokerage Approach

By following the online self-study process, it takes less than two months to complete the two MBQP training courses. You validate your learning using a quiz, chapter by chapter, before passing  the College of Financial Professions exams. After that, you are eligible for the AMF exams.

Mortgage Broker Upgrade

The Deontology and Professional Practices training (F116) is mandatory for a representative from Quebec who wants to reinstate his certificate, just as advisers from other provinces should also take this training. This training supervised by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) comprises six chapters, namely:

  1. Essential legal concepts in mortgage brokerage
  2. Civil Code of Québec and mortgage brokerage
  3. Other Québec laws applicable to mortgage brokerage
  4. Other federal laws applicable to mortgage brokerage
  5. Mortgage brokerage practice
  6. Professional practice of and legal framework governing mortgage brokerage

The fees are $699.00 including manuals in PDF format, self-study modules, including quizzes and exam registrations.

The educational approach

  • You validate your progress using the self-study modules, available 7 days / 24 hours;

  • More than forty quizzes per chapter allow you to deepen your understanding of the subject;

  • When you are ready, you register for the 1st exam in Ethics and Professional Practice;

  • You can ask questions by email to the program director;

  • After the 1st exam, you can undertake the study to register for the 2nd exam in Mortgage Brokerage.

Description of training

Professional ethics and practices (F116)

The training focuses exclusively on the legislative framework (Civil Code) and the regulations for mortgage brokerage, including the rules of ethics. It aims to enable you to integrate the notions of law into your professional practice and the rules governing professional activities by the Autorité des marchés financiers.

Mortgage Brokerage Approach (F611)

The training covers mortgage credit, types of mortgages, financial ratios defining clients’ financial capabilities and how to assess clients’ needs in your role as an adviser.


Learning path

Once you have completed the specialized training at the College of Financial Professions, you can register for the qualification examinations of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) which relate to the same training manuals. Once the training steps have been completed, you can enter the twelve-week probationary period led by a supervisor in a mortgage brokerage firm. Then, you apply for your certificate from the Autorité des marchés financiers to practice as a mortgage broker.

Job role description

The mortgage broker acts as an intermediary between a client who wishes to acquire a property and mortgage lenders, generally financial institutions. He analyzes the client’s financial situation and needs to help him find a mortgage loan that suits him.
